A couple of Saturdays ago, I had the pleasure of being invited to help photograph the Emerge Conference as part of my internship with Student Hubs. The conference was held in the Said Business School in Oxford – a building I walk past nearly every day, but had never been inside. Emerge is all about connecting university students and young professionals and encouraging them to think about “new ideas for creating a more sustainable world”.
It was the first conference I’ve photographed, and a great learning curve. The day was split into a series of seminars, lectures and discussions – all of which needed to be documented. My fellow photographer and I divided the sessions between us, and dashed between rooms where necessary. There was also lots of networking to capture – this provided some of my favourite shots of the day, mainly due to the beautiful natural light in the main lobby. It was a long day on my feet, and by the end of the afternoon it started to become more difficult to remember that I was there to take photos, and not to just sit and listen (it didn’t help that the speakers were all so interesting!)
